3 week recap

Seems like we have been at this forever now. Painting is still in full swing on weekends but with the snow, not much can be done outside. Havent heard from our contractor in 2 weeks but our electrician is still putting together numbers. We were able to get a floor jack put in and the materials for the basement steps are getting put in this week (cost was $315). I swept out the garage and bought two burn barrels. We also had Chris bring out a desk he was going to otherwise donate. I think we will have to act quickly to bury and lengthen our downspouts as the snow is finally starting to melt this week. Still havent caught any mice in our traps but there was a dead shrew who must have eaten the poison that I threw out.

getting behind

I am very behind on getting a lot of things down here but its ok. We got a quote today finally of $2,400 to redo our downstairs bathroom. Not sure when work will begin. Still waiting on a quote from electrician. Tonight was the first night that Jillian was able to stay at the house and work while I was at work. Pretty much finished painting floors on the main floor. One of the windows fell out today. We really need to get in touch with whoever put them in for some repair. They're a mess. We've begun digging post holes for the garden and laying piles of bed material in rows for the hugel Kultur. Started cutting out significant limbs off of some of the Siberian Elm and we will start using them for posts and inoculating some for mushroom cultivation. I've learned that there is actually electricity to the garage, most of the outlets work but the garage door opener needs a lot of attention. We have spent 4 days continuing to paint walls. Tonight was our first big mistake. Ran out of LP gas in the middle of a blizzard. $100 for the guy to tell us that our tank was empty and $150 for a guy to bring us a full tank. It was $1.78 a gallon and we filled it up to its 400 gallon capacity. I had some time to look at the garage construction. There are some very stupid carpentry choices all over but it was good to start to understand what we are in for. Spent $281 on paint. Made some editorial changes to the storage area above the front doorway. We are pulling out so much trim from this house.

Haven't written in almost 2 years. Lately I've been getting back into painting spots that we left off back when we moved in. I installed a new thermostat last weekend. We have added weather stripping to the doors lately. Also caulked two windows on the west side and plastic wrapped them since they're very drafty. A few weeks ago Ianaged to get the old furnace out of the basement and I've been spraying bleach / water on the black mold to kill it off. I'd like to paint a layer of kilz once it's scrubbed up enough but that's going to be a lot of work to clean. I've cleaned out the garage a lot. Removed all the Styrofoam and plastic. There are several rotten boards inside that will need to get replaced once I can stop the leaks that caused the rotten boards.
